Self-care moments: Waking up

8

Hi, this is Anne Malatt with self-care moments, and this is a moment on waking up.

When you wake up, there is a moment, when you are between the worlds of sleep and wakefulness. You have just been lying in one place for several hours … so don’t be in too much of a hurry to move! Even if your alarm has gone off and you have left it till the last minute to get ready for work, just lie there for a moment and feel where you are at.

How are you feeling? Are you rested and refreshed and ready for the day? Or are you still tired from a late night or a restless sleep, heavy from the food you ate last night, or feeling hungover from food or drink? Did you have any dreams that disturbed you or dreams that offered insight, understanding, clarity and healing?

Waking up is like being born again; there is a moment of: here I am and here we go again, around the sun for another day. Is that moment one of deep appreciation and joy? And if not, why not?

Waking up gives us a moment to review the choices we made yesterday, and to decide if we want to bring those same choices, those same movements, into today. How do you feel about yesterday? How do you feel about the day you are moving into? When you reflect on the day are you settled with what has been and are you ready for what is to come?

If we love the way we feel when we wake up, this confirms that the choices we made yesterday were loving and supportive of us. If we don’t feel great, this confirms the fact that we know what is true and what is not true for us and that yesterday we moved against that knowing. Taking a moment to reflect on this, when we wake up, allows us to align again to the truth of what we know and to live from and with that knowing.

In truth, we live just one day, over and over again, until we come to the realisation that there is one way to live a day that is loving and caring, for ourselves and for everyone else, equally so.

How are we going to live today?
