We don’t talk about it in Medicine much, when we lose someone we love. Doctors are no strangers to death and as part of our training, we are taught to toughen up, take things in our stride and become seemingly inured to death.

Albert Einstein is said to have said: “Everything is energy”. We are willing to accept this as a possibility or even as fact when it comes to science in its many and varied forms, but we tend to draw the line when it comes to us. If everything is energy, and it is, what part of that ‘everything’ does not include the human body?
